Changes from version 4.11,4.12:
Fixed problems with labels and envelopes. Version 4.11 had a bug where sometime it would not record a contact. We recommend you upgrade to a higher version even if you didn't have this problem.
Version 4.0: new interface, LDAP, file sync support, multi-user support, application name has been changed from Address Express to Address Ex.
Version 2.0, 3.0: never released!

File merge/synchronization:
This feature is useful for people on the road.
For example, you are editing a copy of the address book on your laptop computer and you have also worked on a different address book on a different computer. Now both files may include new or updated contacts. File synchronize option lets you add the two files together so that they are both up to date.

Multi-user support:
You need to install Address Ex on both computers on the network. Address Ex does not require any additional software (such as database servers) for networking. You can configure Address to read an address book over the network.
For example, F:\Shared Data\Shared Contacts.adx
Where F is a mapped network drive. Read/Write access will depend on network settings.

Printing:
As in previous versions you can print the address book in different format. Or print labels and envelopes. Version 4 lets you select which contacts or which group of contacts you want to print.

Send email to multiple recipients:
In Explorer mode, select several contacts (press the control key and click on different contacts), then right click the mouse and choose send email. You need to specify what is your default email program.
With some email programs this feature may be limited and you can send email to no more 20 addresses at a time.

LDAP (Directory Servers):
Double Click on Directory Server Node, Select a server, example ldap.bigfoot.com
Type in a name and press Enter. Address Ex should be able to display a list of names that match. You may also right click on the contact and add it to your address book.

Importing Contacts:
Most address books/information managers support CSV address book import and export.
First, open your other program and export your data
Second, Select "Personal Contacts" or any other Address Ex address book (ADX format).
Click on the File menu, click File->Import->Text File (comma separated values)

Step 1: ACME Contact Manager exports to mycontacts.csv
Step 2: Address Ex imports from mycontacts.csv

Address Ex will probably have a different format
For example, ACME Contact Manager may have these fields:
FirstName, LastName, ...
But Address Ex use different names:
First Name, Last Name, ...
You have to examine these field names and match them.

Data:
Address Ex hold up to 10,000 contacts in each file. For performance reasons, it is recommended that you keep no more than 4,000 in each file. In addition the current version holds up to 50 fields.

Phone dialer:
In Explorer mode, click on a contact, you should see a summary of the contact listed a bottom right side. Click on the phone number to dial.
The first time you use the phone dialer you will be asked to select a line. Select your current modem.

Customizable field Names:
In Explorer mode, click on Edit menu, and select "Edit Fields". You have 5 user fields, you can change these names to anything. Click Okay.

Sort:
Click on sort and choose any field. For example, Sort by "Date Created" shows items that have recently been added.

Filter:
Filter button is on the top right in Explorer mode. Click on Filter and choose, for example, "Home Address". The program will the list only contacts that have home address. This can be useful for printing addresses. Or filter by email address to display only contacts that have email.

Groups:
To create a group click on Edit->Add Group. Type in a new group name and click okay.
In Explorer mode, click on a contact and drag it to any group then release the mouse button.
You can also select more than one contact to move or copy to another group.
